The Lanzarote weather calendar, month by month

Lanzarote has no winter in the mainland sense. It has nuances. This is the honest guide to what to expect each month.

Why the south is different

Playa Blanca sits on the southern tip of Lanzarote, the most sheltered from the northern trade wind and the corner that gathers the most hours of sun. While the north of the island can wake up cloudy, the south is usually clear. That is why the Royal Mónica is where it is.

Winter (November to March)

The snowbird season. Highs of 21-23 degrees, lows that rarely drop below 15. The sea hovers around 18-19 degrees. Rain is scarce and brief. For many people from northern Europe, it is the best possible winter without leaving the European Union.

Spring (April to June)

Probably the finest time of year: 23-26 degrees, steady sun, the trade wind still gentle. Fewer people than in summer and kinder prices. Ideal for anyone who can choose their dates.

Summer (July to September)

Highs of 27-29 degrees, but the trade wind tempers how the heat feels: it is nothing like the heavy, continental kind. This is the family season, the liveliest and the busiest. Book ahead.

Autumn (October)

The secret. The sea still warm from summer, temperatures of 25-26 degrees, far fewer people. For many returning guests, their favourite month.

In short: in southern Lanzarote there is no bad month, only different months. If you are after the warmest winter in Europe, come November to March. If you are after the perfect balance, May or October.
