Some don't come for a week. They arrive in November and leave in March. They are called snowbirds, and the Royal Mónica knows them well.
Who the snowbird is
Retirees and early-retirees from central and northern Europe (Germany, the United Kingdom, the Nordic countries) who swap the cold, grey winter back home for three or four months of sun. They are not week-long tourists: they are temporary residents.
Why southern Lanzarote
A mild, settled climate all winter long, cheap direct flights from across much of Europe, accessible healthcare, workable English in the area and a reasonable cost of living. Playa Blanca brings all of that together with fewer crowds than other Canary destinations.
What a long stay is like
The key isn't the room, it's that the hotel can be lived in: communal areas to spend your days, a routine (the pool, a walk, the market), and recognising faces year after year. Many of the Royal Mónica's snowbirds return on the same dates and to almost the same room for years.
The Winter Sun package
This is exactly what the long stay with progressive discount is for: the longer you stay, the better the nightly rate. The season's terms are published in the packages section; for specific dates, the best thing is to write to the hotel directly.
If the winter in your town lasts too long, some people have already found the answer. They've been doing it for years in Playa Blanca.
