Playa Blanca sits on the southern tip of Lanzarote, the side most sheltered from the trade winds and the sunniest on the island. In winter the days hover around 20-22 °C; in summer the breeze tempers the heat so it never grows oppressive. Fuerteventura lies opposite, across a strait of turquoise water.
Lanzarote airport (ACE) is around 30 minutes away by car. The coves of Papagayo, the volcanoes of Timanfaya, the vineyards of La Geria and the work of César Manrique are all a stone's throw away.
All within 50 km of the hotel. Lanzarote fits into a day, but deserves several.
The volcanic National Park. The 1730 eruption still warm beneath your feet. Steam geyser, the fire route, a Martian landscape.
Vines planted in hollows of black ash, with no rain. Dry or sweet Malvasía, tastings at family bodegas half an hour from the hotel.
The finest coves in the south · turquoise water · golden sand. On foot, by kayak or by car. Ten minutes by road from the hotel.
César Manrique's masterpiece. An auditorium inside a volcanic tube, a natural lake home to endemic blind crabs.
The balcony to the north, also the work of Manrique. Views over the Chinijo archipelago and La Graciosa from 475 metres up.
The oldest market in the islands. Cheeses, mojos, ceramics and local craftwork. Sunday morning. Arrive early.
Half an hour from the hotel by car. Private transfer or hire car — both right at the airport.
From Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao and most European capitals (UK, Germany, the Netherlands). Low-cost fares at very reasonable prices.

Southern Lanzarote has no winter in the mainland sense: it has shades of one.
